Animedia January 2022 - GokuLuck Character Designer Interview

What follows is the designer interview and notes from the January 2022 issue of Animedia, featuring lack (designer for GokuLuck). For the sake of brevity, I have not translated the character profiles or plot recap that appear in the feature; the focus is on the designer interview and other remarks made by lack.

What's Up? Pararai [21st edition]

Introducing, from the four newly-added teams, GokuLuck, a team consisting of savage prisoners and the prison guard! Check out these comments from their character designer, lack, too ♪

Design Points

Shion: The idea in this design was for a design that felt a little bit evil, suspicious, and sexual. The scaly skin on his face, the tattoo on his abdomen, and the nail ring are particlar points of interest.

Yuto: Since he's the type of character that's like "On the surface, he appears to be an upstanding, honest young man, but he has a far more terrifying side to him...", I put a lot of thought into how his public-facing image and his hidden side differ.

Ryoga: I wanted him to have a very wild image. The key points here are his muscular build, the tattoos on the backs of his hands, and the grills on his teeth.

Kenta: He has the image of a super misanthropic hacker, and so he has the most tech-y kind of vibe out of the entire team. His headphones and the green underlayers are highlights.

Message From Lack

To Shion: What kind of cigarettes do you smoke? Also, be mindful of how much you mess around with women.

To Yuto: Thank you for the work you put in every day managing the three prisoners. Be sure not to overdo it with the stomach medicine~

To Ryoga: It seems like you have a good time on the days you work out. My personal recommendation for protein is Umatein!

To Kenta: Be mindful off what you say on social media. Also, let me know if you find any good electronic gadgets.

Designer Interview

lack is an illustrator. Other character design credits include Odaka Izou for Fate/Grand Order and Ichimonji Norimune for Touken Ranbu.

What was the concept behind GokuLuck's design?
To tell you the truth, the original name for the group -- before it was GokuLuck -- was "CERBERUS". So while expanding on the basic concept of a three-headed guard dog and its owner, the concept turned into something like "three guard dogs with their own different kinds of ferocity, but their owner is secretly the most terrifying of them all".

Out of the other new teams, is there anyone you're particularly interested in?
I quite like Okiayu Ryotaro-san, so I'm interested in Baek Chungsung from AMPRULE!

Please share a message with the readers.
While I was designing this new team, I listened to a lot of songs from the franchise, and I think they're all very high quality. I think it'd be great if Paralive, including these new teams, is able to spread to a wide variety of media. Please look forward to what GokuLuck -- the villains from prison that I was in charge of designing -- get up to!
